Wicked Wrista Cup
Format & Rules
Fast games, balanced teams, simple standings, and just enough chaos to make tournament day fun.

Tournament Basics
Games are played at Longplex using the normal rules we play with there, including offsides and normal hockey contact. The goal is competitive hockey without losing sight of why everyone is there: to have a good time.
00
Draft Format
Teams are created through a random draft. Each roster is built using the same player-rating structure:
B-player invitations are handled the commissioner and the advisory board. The draft takes place at a randomly selected Rhode Island restaurant, where the restaurant staff and patrons select the teams. Wicked Wrista Cup organizers do not choose which players are drafted to each team.
01
Game Format
- Each game is 15 minutes with a running clock.
- The clock only stops for an injury or referee stoppage.
- Offsides and the normal Longplex rules are in effect.
- Handshake lines are only held after playoff games so the schedule keeps moving.
02
Faceoffs
- There is a faceoff after every goal.
- The referee collects the puck, skates to center, counts down from 10, and drops the puck.
- A puck shot out of play results in a faceoff.
- A carried offside results in a faceoff at the location determined by the referee.
- If the goalie covers the puck, the referee selects the faceoff side.
03
Seeding-Game Overtime
- Overtime is 3 minutes of sudden death.
- If nobody scores, the game moves to a sudden-death TJ Oshie-style shootout.
- After three shootout rounds, the game is recorded as a tie.
- Each team receives one standings point for the tie.
- Shootout goals do not count toward the team's goal total.
04
Playoff Overtime
- Playoff overtime is an 8-minute sudden-death period.
- If the game remains tied, a three-round shootout follows.
- Playoff shootouts do not use the TJ Oshie-style format.
- The shootout continues as needed until a winner is decided.
05
Playoffs
All six teams make the playoffs. After the opening round, the remaining teams are reseeded for the semifinal round. A break is scheduled between the second semifinal and the championship game.
06
Standings & Points
Standings use the Four Nations points format. If teams are tied in points, total goals scored breaks the tie. Shootout goals are not included in the goal total.
If teams are still tied in both points and goals, they play a 5-minute sudden-death mini game before the playoffs.
07
Penalties
Standard penalties are assessed as an immediate penalty shot. The game clock stops for the penalty and resumes when the shooter touches the puck.
- A flagrant penalty may also result in a 2-minute power play in addition to the penalty shot.
- Play remains 4-on-4, but the penalized team does not replace the player serving the penalty.
- Penalty shots must be taken regardless of the score.
- Goals scored on penalty shots count toward the team's goal total.
All players line up on the far blue line. Once the shooter touches the puck, the clock starts and the play is live. This means all players can move into the zone and the play is now live. If you&pos;re a fast defender, you can stop the penalty shot.
If the shot misses and the puck stays live, play continues. If the goalie covers the puck, play is stopped and a faceoff is held.
08
Player Conduct
Normal hockey contact is allowed, but dangerous, reckless, or unnecessarily aggressive play is not.
If the referees raise concerns about a player's conduct, the commissioner will address it directly.
Throwing a punch or starting a fight results in immediate removal from the tournament without a refund. The player's team will continue shorthanded, and the player will not be invited to future tournaments ever in the history of time.
09
Payments & Check-In
- Please bring $60 in cash.
- Tournament payment is made at the rink-side tournament desk when your jersey is issued.
- Players must still sign in at the Longplex front desk.
- Do not pay the tournament fee at the Longplex front desk.
10
Jerseys
- Each team receives six jerseys for tournament use.
- Five are player-cut jerseys and one is goalie-cut.
- A jersey-return bin is available at the tournament sign-in table.
- Jerseys stay with the tournament and should not be taken home.
11
Prizes & Post-Tournament
A portion of player payments is used for a post-tournament party at Sports Kitchen, including pizza and beer.
The Wicked Wrista Cup is presented after the championship game. The winning team and players are added to the cup within the following week.
A player from the winning team may take the cup home for a week by coordinating with the commissioner.
